Abstract
total 801 cases of open heart surgery and the other 288 cases of non-open heart surgery were performed at Sejong General Hospital in 1994.
Among the 801 cases of the open heart surgery, 517 cases were congenital heart diseases, 273 cases were acquired heart diseases and 11 cases were heart transplantation and the ratio of congenital heart diseases and acquired heart diseases was
1.8:1.
In congenital heart disease, 290 cases were acyanotic and 227 cases were cyanotic heart disease. Ventricular septal defect was the leading acyanatic congenital heart disease(71.4%) , the others were ASD, Pulmonary stenosis and DCRV.
Tetralogy of Fallot was the most common in cyanotic congenital heart disease(32.6%), the others were PA+VSD (11.0%), TGA(8.4%), TA(7.9%), UVH (7.0%), and DORV(6.2%)etc.
Acquired heart disease consisted of 192cases of valvular heart disease, 70 cases of ischemic heart disease, 5 cases of aortic disease and 6 cases of other disease.
Heart transplantation was done at 11 patients, and consisted of 8 cases of dilated cardiomyopathy, 1 cases of valvular cardiomyopathy, 1 cases of ischemic cardiomyopathy and 1 case of congenital heart disease.
Among 228 cases of non-open heart surgery. Modified B-T shunt was the most common(18.0%) and was followed by PDA division (17.5%), pacemaker insertion (14.0%) and pericardiostomy(8.8%) etc.
The operative mortality rate was 8.7% in congenital heart disease, 3.3% in acquired heart disease, 27.3% in transplantation, 1.3% in non-open heart surgery and overall mortality rate was 6.2%.
